Yes. Every hunter needs a valid Texas hunting license, plus the correct endorsements for what you're hunting. Seasons, bag limits and license requirements are set by Texas Parks & Wildlife and the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service and change every year, so confirm the current rules before you travel.

For migratory birds you'll generally need a Texas hunting license, the migratory game bird endorsement, and HIP certification. Crane hunts also require the free sandhill crane permit. Waterfowl also require the federal duck stamp. Hogs and prairie dogs on the private land we hunt need no migratory-bird paperwork. Most of it is handled online in about ten minutes.

Guiding, blinds, decoys, calling and private field access are all included, and the guide is with your party the whole hunt. We scout the evening before, set up in the field the birds actually used, and call every shot. After the hunt, your birds are breasted, bagged and iced the same morning.

Bring your shotgun in 12 or 20 gauge, non-toxic shot for crane and waterfowl at about three boxes a day, and your license and stamps. Dress for the plains: brown, tan or grass camo, waterproof boots, gloves, a face covering, and one more warm layer than you think you'll need. Add eye and ear protection, food and drinks, and a cooler for the drive home.

Sandhill crane is three a gun, duck is six a day, and dove is fifteen a day. Goose limits are set by species. Hog, prairie dog and pigeon have no limit. These figures are set by Texas Parks & Wildlife and the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service and change annually, so confirm the current limits before your hunt.

No honest outfitter can guarantee wild birds. What we guarantee is that we scout, we set up where the birds are, and we work the limit the right way. If it takes until mid-morning to take your birds honestly, we stay until mid-morning. If a day is genuinely unhuntable, we say so first thing and put it back on the books.

Yes. Any two species can be combined in a single trip. Crane at daylight, ducks at midday, hogs after supper — most repeat parties come for two days and shoot two or three species. Tell us what you want to shoot and we'll build the trip around it.

Yes. Your birds are breasted, bagged and iced the same morning, ready for the cooler or the flight home. Cleaning is part of a guided hunt.

We hunt private land only, across the Texas South Plains around Lubbock, with fields in and around Hale County. Every acre is leased from a landowner we know by name. We do not hunt public land, so there's no public-land pressure and no crowding.

No. We don't run a lodge. Hunters arrange their own lodging in and around Lubbock, a short drive from the fields, where there are plenty of hotels and rentals. Ask when you book and we're glad to recommend places to stay and eat.

Lubbock Preston Smith International, airport code LBB. It's about forty minutes from most of our fields, with direct flights from Dallas, Houston, Austin and Denver. Send us your flight numbers and we'll meet you and run you to the blind and back.

Crane season on the Texas High Plains generally runs from late October into late January, with the peak of the run in December and January. Texas Parks & Wildlife sets the exact dates each August, so confirm the current season before you book travel.

Yes, non-hunters and kids are welcome if the blind has room — just tell us when you book. A September dove field is the best introduction there is for a young shooter.
